Frequently asked questions about price locking
What does price locking mean?
Locking the price of exchange electricity means that you can choose to protect yourself against fluctuations in exchange electricity prices for a fixed period. You can lock the electricity price for an entire quarter or for the remaining months of the current quarter. You can have several locked periods in force at the same time.
In practice, locking the price means that instead of the spot price of exchange electricity, you pay a fixed price plus a consumption impact, which depends on when you use electricity. In addition to the locked fixed price and the consumption impact, you also pay a margin for each kilowatt hour consumed and a monthly basic fee. A price lock cannot be cancelled once it has been made.
You can lock the price up to two years ahead, and you can lock either 50% or 100% of the electricity price. From the moment you lock a price, your contract becomes a fixed-term contract until the end of the last locked period. After that, the contract will once again remain in force until further notice.
Prices can only be locked as self-service in the new OmaOomi service. The price locking option is free of charge.

Does it cost anything to lock the exchange electricity price?
No, locking the exchange electricity price is free of charge.
What does consumption impact mean?
The consumption impact is the difference between your consumption-weighted average price and the average price of exchange electricity. It depends on how your consumption is distributed between the cheapest and most expensive days and quarter-hours of the month.
When you use more electricity at times when it is cheaper, your consumption impact goes down. Similarly, when you use more electricity at times when it is more expensive, your consumption impact goes up.
The consumption impact is based on the quarter-hourly price of electricity for the Finnish price area (c/kWh), as published by the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool, and on the customer’s quarter-hourly consumption (kWh), which is why it is not fixed. The consumption impact is always determined afterwards, at the invoicing stage.
